I’m not sure if I’ve seen a more amusing competition that this one in many, many years. City Interactive are currently developing Combat Wings: The Great Battles of WWII for the PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii, an game it looks set to provide decidedly typical dogfighting fare with not much going for it that hasn’t been seen in a hundred other such titles. Except for the fact that you could be doing voice over work for it.
One lucky/talented/amusingly-bad-at-acting CVG reader will get the chance to play a character in the game. Said character is British and a pilot, but beyond that is open to whatever degree of thespian interpretation you see fit to bring to bear upon the script.
And what a script it is. I’m sure the winner will do sterling service on the game, but the best part of this competition will be seeing the really bad entries. To win, aspiring actors have to record a sample of a few lines from the game and upload it to Youtube. I’m trying to think of a suitable way to set up how ridiculously awful these lines are, but I really don’t need to. See for yourself.
“Well, come on Jerry! What, not so easy now!”
“Come on, come on! You’re dead, Jerry!”
It gets better.
“You, German – I will kill you!”
So if you fancy yourself as a VO artist, or if you just have some lingering resentment against Germans that needs an outlet, get practising, send in a video and provide the internet with enough lulz to keep the giggleometer spiking for a month.
